We offer portraiture photography in informal settings, photography that can range from a simple and fast posed shot of a family or couple to mount on a Christmas card to a full day of photography during family reunions and lake home vacations along Lake Vermilion, Burntside Lake, or anywhere else within 50 miles of Ely.

As a photojournalist, I have had broad experience capturing the perfect fleeting moment, and specialize in that style of portrait photography, recording people being themselves in their natural environments. If you are a hunter, I will go on the hunt with you. I canoe with canoeists, trip my shutter for actors and run with the dogsledders. One day, I may be photographing a high school student along the shores of Lake Superior, another day traveling the other direction to capture a series of portraits of a family on Lake Vermilion who has gathered for a long-awaited family reunion. On another day, I may be photographing out of my own boat to produce a series of portraits of a fishing guide and his or her clients, and the next night I may be settled in next to the bright lights of a stage, delivering portraits of rock-and-roll, blues or country/bluegrass bands.

I bring that informal, active style to graduation photography and family gatherings, offering a combination of traditional outdoor posed shots with families — and candid portraiture.

I listen carefully to what you say and what you want, working hard and with creativity to satisfy you. And none of this is done in the studio. Your home, your typical surroundings, or the wilderness are our studios.

We offer the ability to deliver final images in two ways: Traditional prints or via CD/DVD. In the traditional way, we’ll offer a series of proofs on an online gallery suitable for viewing on a computer screen, where you will order and have your prints shipped directly to you. Or we’ll record images from the session on CD/DVD for you to make your own prints in your own time. The latter method saves you money but will mean a bit more work for you.
